''An Analysis of the Usage of the Reason in Tipitaka''

Abstract

 

The objectives of this dissertation are (1) to study theUsage of Logicin general science and in the Buddhism (2) to analytical study the Usage of Logic in the Tipitaka (3) to study the The Usage of Logic can result intheTipitaka.

This study has found that  the Usage of Logic doctrines deliberating by Buddha and his followers are significantly intermingled in the Tipitaka. As shown in the VinayaPiaka, or Discipline Basket, the usage of logic is witnessed in the disciplinary canon for sustainability the religious over a prolonged period of times. Its usages can be considered for keeping all parties usefulness; explaining logical metaphor, passing on the disciplinary canon through logic language and asking permission for becoming a bhikkhuni.  In SuttaTipitaka, or Sermons Basket, the Usage of Logic can be seen in various ways which are using as a tool for truth findings; discussing Karma dogma as Anutta(non-self); explaining five aggregates as parts of the three signs of being; answering the logically consciousness through the Dependent Origination toward Sati-bhikku; the Four Noble Truths sermon so causes, including suffering and the cessation of suffering, and effects, including the cause of suffering and the path leading to the cessation, can be described in Katha-Vatthu doctrines (Subjects for talk among the monks). In AbhidhammaPitaka, the Usage of Logic is detailed in the affirmative process of traditional Buddhist doctrines; for instance, five aggregates in the aspect of ultimate truth and conventional truth. The Abhidhamma doctrine itself is well-known accepted as the most systematic logical usage by Buddhist scholars.

The Usage of Logic has seven characteristics. These include (1) a classification of Mind and Matter from small to large and reverse from large to small so as it can be related to life classification into five aggregates in order to understand the Three Signs of Being by having Paticcasamuppada as supported base (2) a comparative logic by using media or metaphor for better understanding of abstract meaning (3) a self-assuming to others for self-moral/others-moral evaluation (4) a story telling for better understanding of dharma as appeared in Upalivadasuttra (5) an exquisite dharma or sermon for explaining mind and mental concomitants this will be suitable to person who considered oneself with more knowledge than others (6) a word transition from negative to positive meaning for supporting good attitude; for example, a “person with no taste” is  related to “Buddha who can refrain of senses based” (7) a process logic answer of (7.1)  Anulomapanjaka – consecutively questioning (7.2) Patikammajatuka – counterattack by respondent (7.3) Niggahajatuka – disgrace from the respondent(7.4)Upanayajatuka – certifying that Niggahajatuka is correct but Anulomapanjaka is incorrect (7.5)Niggamajatuk – concluding that Niggahajatuka is incorrect but Niggamajatuk is all correct including Patikamma, Niggaha, Upanaya and Niggama.  When the respondent has already responded back in every issues, he/she will start to question step by step so called  Panjanikalaloma. The question and answer will be proceeded to gain knowledge of         (1)  The ultimate truth (2) Practical guideline (3) Buddhist doctrines understanding (4)  Conceit refrain  (5)  Mutual Understanding among religious

            The Usage of Logic can result in (1) the four assemblies of the Buddhist devoutand (2) an adherent of another religion; heretical teacher. The four assemblies can be referred to Bhikku, Bhikkuni, male & female devotee who pursuit for Buddhist wisdom in order to understand the ultimate truth and will not skepticism on Buddhist Doctrines or uncertainty of the triple gems.  The dhamma learning can be testified as needed under the fully supported by these laypeople.  And also the Usage of Logic can build up good attitude toward an adherent of another religious by having more understanding of the Buddhist doctrines as it showed during the time of the Buddha that some adherent of another religious had proclaimed oneself as Buddhist layman whom holding firmly respect to the triple gems for the rest of life.
