Abstract

This thesis is the study of the hunger cure in Theravda Buddhism with three objectives :- to study the hunger that appears in Buddhist Doctrine, to study the cure of hunger in Theravda Buddhism and to study the influence and the worth of the principle to treat the hunger.

From the research, found it is that the hunger is the desire or need to eat. It can be excruciatingly painful and is regarded as one of the top diseases, because it cannot be completely eradicated. It can arise naturally or arise from craving. Hunger occurs in all and the hunger Beings who are of no defilements. The normal people are hungry for edible foods, but the pregnant people may crave the something unusual. The symptom of sickness in pregnant women can predict the condition of the newborns. The hunger can diminish the self-development and endanger others including  the animals.

The cure of hunger is by consuming. Theravda Buddhism laid down the practices of seeking food, following   the Buddha’s way of behavior, for example, to eat a single meal per day. The code of discipline to cure the hunger is the mindfulness and consciousness. One must not be indulged  to satisfy the greed, but to consume to cure the hunger with the aim to attain the real value of the consumption. One should consciously be aware during receiving the food, consuming the food and after consuming the food, and eating the right portion, being satisfied with what one has, the fact of which is the best consuming manner.

The Buddhist way to cure the hunger is of the good consequences for the practitioners, such as they will be healthy, be able to develop themselves well according to the Threefold Training. The rising of the charitable centers to help the  hungers, to foster a good relationship in the societies. The code of conduct also decreases the destruction and conserves the natural resources and the environments, This principle is also widely applied to and taught in Thai societies.
