Abstract

 

ABSTRACT

                       The study entitled ‘The Project Evaluation of the Holistic Care of Cancer-Patients Based on a Meditation Therapy of Arogayasal at  Wat Khampramong of Sakon Nakhon Province’ is of 1) to evaluate the input of the project of the Holistic Care of cancer-patients based on a meditation therapy ; 2) to evaluate the implementation process of the project of the Holistic Care of cancer-patients based on a meditation therapy; 3) to evaluate the outcome of the project of the Holistic Care of cancer-patients based on a meditation therapy; and 4) to evaluate the impact of the project of the Holistic Care of cancer-patients based on a meditation therapy of Arogayasal at  Wat Khampramong of Sakon Nakhon province.

                       The sample of the study includes 74 respondents: a Project administrator, 4 treatment specialists, 17 volunteers, 22 patients’ relatives, and 30 patients. The tools of data collection consist of questionnaire and interview schedule. Statistics used for data analysis includes frequency, percentage, mean and Standard Deviation (S.D.).

The results of the study found as follows.

                       1) With regard to the input of the project it was generally found that  the readiness of the project staff, the readiness of patients and their relatives, the readiness of accommodations, the appropriation of supplement and treatment factors, the appropriate administration of the project, and the suitable IT facilities were high; and from the results of interviewing the project administrator it was found that ones who are in charge of treatments at Arogayasal, Wat Khampramong are well-trained  in the cancer curing process because they are doctors and nurses, specialists  from hospitals, who were educationally qualified from several universities; well-managed, comfortable and enough accommodations owing to a good plan in anticipation and the donation from patients themselves and general donors; sufficient budgets having got from patients, general people and visiting agencies; enough facilities; a good management of  the project both in the public relations and internet base; and the continuity of treatment. Moreover, there were a good, proper, updated and effective Information Technology.

                       2) As regards the project implementation process it was generally found that the pre-treatment process, under-treatment process, post-treatment process, opinion upon problems and hindrances were properly highest; and from the results of interviewing the project administrator it was found that  there were a good pre-treatment process by diagnosis from the patient’s treatment background which was effective for the next step of treatment, the proper under-treatment process by a regular follow-up and measurement; and a good service process in forms of a mental care, a mailed medicine, managing a funeral function for passing-away patients etc.

                       3) In connection with the outcome of the project it was generally found  that the results of patients’ treatment  and  satisfaction with the treatment activity and implementation in various aspects process were highest; and from the results of interviewing the project administrator it was found that the outcome of physical and mental treatments were very high because Arogayasal, Wat Khampramong also paid attention to patients’ taking exercise, diet system, chanting, meditation, Dharma talk which could have enhanced the effectiveness of treatment and patients’ satisfaction.

                       4) With respect to the impact of the project it was generally found that  patients’ and their relatives’ self-adjustment, and being interested in service mind were highest;  and from the results of interviewing the project administrator it was found that patients knew how to look after themselves and could have disseminated knowledge to other patients and after well-recovering they have become service minded ones at Arogayasal, Wat Khampramong without any payments.
