AN ADMINSTRATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH BRAHMAVIHARA DHAMMA OF SCHOOL ADMINSTRATORS, SAI MAI DISTRICT, BANGKOK

Abstract

 The objectives of this research were; 1)  to study the administration in accordance with Brahmaviaradhamma of school administrators at Sai Mai District, Bangkok, 2) to  compare the administration in accordance with Brahmaviaradhamma of school administrators at Sai Mai District, Bangkok and 3) to study problems, obstacles and suggestions for administrative in accordance with Brahmaviaradhamma of school administrators at Sai Mai District, Bangkok. Methodology was the mixed research method using the quantitative research as the main method and qualitative research as supportive  method.  The populations for the quantitative research was the 567  personnel in schools at Sai Mai District, Bangkok and 234 samples were derived from the populations using Taro Yamane’s formula. Data were analyzed by frequency, mean and standard deviation. Hypotheses were tested  by t-test, F-test and one way ANOVA to test the different means from three groups or more. The differences of means of the paired variables were tested by LSD,(Least Significant Differences) As for the qualitative research, data were collected from  7 key informants, purposefully selected, the tool was structured in-depth-interview. Data were collected  by in-depth-interview and analyzed by descriptive interpretation.

          Findings were as follows:

          1) The administration in accordance with Brahmaviaradhamma of school Administrators at Sai Mai District, Bangkok according to the personnel’s opinion was at high level with the average at 3.96 and SD at 0.555.

          Considering each aspect according to the personnel s’ opinions was at high levels, consecutively as;  Mutita, sympathetic joy, was at the average of 4.301, SD at 0.613, Metta, loving kindness with the average  of 3.9 9, SD 0.681 Ubekkha, impersonal serenity was at the average  of 3.99 and SD at 0.680 and Karuna, kindness was at the average of 3.87 and SD was at 0.640.

          2) Comparison of educational personnel opinions about the administration   according to Brahmaviaradhamma of schools administrators at Sai Mai District, Bangkok classified by population data; sex, status, age, educational level, monthly income,positions and the length of time in the service was that  educational personnel with different sex, age, status, educational level, monthly income, positions and the length of time in the service had significantly different opinions about the administration according to Brahmaviaradhamma of schools administrators at Sai  Mai District, Bangkok at the significant level of 0.05

          3) Problem, obstacles and suggestions for the administration according to  Brahmaviaradhamma of the schools administrators at Sai Mai District, Bangkok was that; for Metta, loving kindness, administrators did not have confidence in concise decision making, dared not look far ahead and did not understand the subordinates’ problems and needs, did not evaluate subordinates by merit system. As for Karuna, kindness, administrators did not devote time to give advices to subordinates and helped them solve their problems. Administrators did not pay attentions to subordinates’ health and welfares.

          As for Mutita, sympathetic joy, administrators did not express their joys with subordinates, expressed no feeling towards those who came to contact and coordinate. As for Upekkha, impersonal serenity, school administrators still lacked justice in giving rewards to subordinates. Schools administrators’ neutrality was deviated, bias-oriented. Did not listen to subordinates’opinions and sometimes, did not abide by the rule of law. As for recommendation, schools administrators should promote educational personnel to apply Dhamma principles in teaching, and also should equally give a fair deal to every educational personnel.
