Abstract

Abstract

The dissertation entitledThe Model and Uprooting Process of              Ditthicetasika in Theravāda Buddhism consists of 3 objectives as: 1) to study           Ditthicetasika in Theravada Buddhism,  2) to examine of the uprooting process of    Ditthicetasika with the doctrine of Majjhenadhamma and 3) to study the pattern and process of  Ditthicetasika in line with Theravada Buddhism.

The result revealed that Ditthicetasika and Micchàditthi share the same meaning as the wrong view or false faiths. That is to say, the wrong view is the speculative opinion which does not understand the world as it is. It is not benefit to oneself and the society in this life and after life. The Ditthicetasika leads to the unwholesomeness or result to the next life. The example is appeared in Pailiya Sutta that the fruit of a person who falls in Ditthicetasika is to be born again in the realm of Peta or hungry ghost, Asurakàya or demons etc. There are many types of   Ditthicetasika viz. Sakkãyaditthi or self-illusion, Sassataditthi or the doctrine that soul and the world are eternal, Ucchedaditthi or the doctrine of the annihilation of the soul, Natthikaditthi or the theory of nothingness, Ahetukaditthi or the theory that there is no cause of a phenomenon, Akiriyaditthi or view of the inefficacy of action and Ditthi 62 types that appeared in Brahmajala Sutta and another sutta in the Theravada Buddhist Canon.

The process of uprooting the Ditthicetasika with the doctrine of Majjhenadhamma (Middle Way of Expressing the Truth) is uprooted by the Five Aggregates Pañca-khandha. A person must consider the Five Aggregates Pañca-khandha as the non – self. The process of uprooting Ditthicetasika by Āyatana: sense-fields, a person must consider the sense-fields based on the impermanent, sufferings and non-self. The process of uprooting the Ditthicetasika by the Three Characteristics; a person must consider with the impermanent and the process of asking and answering the question about the Three Characteristics is needed to be used. The process of uprooting the Ditthicetasika with Kamma or Actions; a person must perform the meritorious deed. However, there is other the process of uprooting the Ditthicetasika based on the Theravada Buddhism, such as uprooting by associating education and good friend. The cultivation of Dāna Pāramī or the perfection of giving, Sīla Pāramī or good conduct and Dhutaga or austere practices are causing the Right View. The uprooting of Sakkāyaditthi or self-illusion as the Three Characteristics and eradicating the Antagāhikaditthi by not reply the unavailing questions and not cling to the Five Aggregates; visual, auditory, olfactory, gustatory, bodily and mental. The eradication niyata-micchāditthi or wrong views with fixed destiny by not performing the unwholesomeness; bodily misconduct, verbal misconduct and mental misconduct and devotion to good things. The uprooting of 62 types of Ditthi by not cling the Six Sense-Bases and uprooting by not associate with the fools. However, the Diṭṭhicetasika must be eradicated by the Majjhenadhamma as the first step and follows by the practice of concentrating the mind and the advanced state is to practice the Insight Meditation in line with the Four Foundations of Mindfulness.
