Abstract

 

The purposes of this study are of 3 (1) to study the virtues for lay people in the Tipitaka (2) to study the concept regarding to family lives and (3) to study the application of the virtues for lay people in Thai societies.

The results of the research showed that the virtues for lay people are the important Buddhist teachings to be used for peaceful and successful daily lives according to their goals of life. The lay people must have the relationship and the interaction with family members, friends, colleagues etc. According to their social’s roles. If the social member applied the Buddha Dhamma to their goodness and qualities in their daily lives and have the good performance to one another. They and the societies will be full of happiness, kindness and good will. The virtues for lay people, comprise of four principles as follows: (1) Sacca is truthfulness, honesty (2) Dama is the taming and the of training oneself;  adjustment; self-development (3) Khanti is forbearance, perseverance, or tolerance and (4) Caga is generosity and liberality.

The virtues for lay people is the important Buddhist Dhammas for societies and all mankinds. If any person or society applied this Buddhist Dhamma to their life, their families and societies will be of  the joy, the peace and the ability to prosper more and more.
