Luang Phor Petch : A Buddhist Art Media Influencing upon Peoples in Muang District, Uttaradit Province

Abstract

There were three objectives of this research: 1) to study history and the importance of Luang Phor Petch Muang District, Uttaradit Province, 2) to study a media of the Buddhist art of Luang Phor Petch Muang District, Uttaradit Province, and 3) to study the influence of Luang Phor Petch to people in Muang District, Uttaradit Province. This research was a qualitative research by documentary and In-depth interviews methods. The results were as follows:
1) Luang Phor Phetch : the Buddha imagewas casted from bronze throughout the body. Impressed by the sitting meditation. Assumed to have been built since the Chiang Saen period or in the Buddha image group call that "Buddha image of Chiang Saen Singha 1". It was discovered in the year of the snake. In BE. 1836 AD 112 duration of approximately 5 months or 6 months by the MahaTheraDuang and The Buddha image is presented at the Wat Wang Toe Moe (Wat ThaThanon) with the Buddha sitting in the sitting posture sitting meditation, that given the name of the Buddha image is "Luang Phor Petch" as well as the name of the abbot Wat Wang Toe Moe (Wat ThaThanon) in those days. And because of this, the Buddha was given the name of the Buddha image and is known throughout "Luang Phor Petch" continuity consecutive until today.
2) The Buddha image "Luang Phor Petch" is a beautiful Buddhist art media. It was casted from bronze throughout the body. Impressed by the sitting meditation. His face was plastered with gratitude. The lap width of 32 inches             (1 cubit), height from the base of the seat to the top of the height of about 41 inches. This Buddha image is enshrined in the special sanctuary, especially called. "Vihara Luang Phor Phet" in Wat ThaThanon, Muang District, Uttaradit Province. It is a combination of three countries, the roof is a china, Giant eating moon is an Indian art, is located at the front, and behind the sanctuary, there is a Thai art in the front. In the inside has a Thai-Chinese Painting.
3) Luang Phor Petch has a very influential to the people in Muang District. Uttaradit Province; The Beliefs: when they see the very beautiful Buddha’s character of Luang pho petch Buddha image and come to worship, they have the beliefs; Valuable of mind:Whether happiness or suffering. When you have the opportunity to worship, it will make you happy and feel safe to rely on the mind; The Protection: At the time of business or career. They will pay homage to most blessings, it would be good trading with safety; The supernatural: it can be seen clearly whether the fire or natural disaster in Uttaradit province. Luang Phor Petchis showing the supernatural, helping to turn things into serious danger, becoming a little danger. Achieving goals: most people will pay homage to the blessings of advancement in finance, fortune, and health.
