A study of the Sangha’s Role In Training the Value and Morality for the Students of the Primary School in the Territory of Kaun Wan Sub-district, Nongkhai Province

Abstract

The purposes of the research entitled “A study of the Sangha’s role in training the virtue and morality for the students of the Primary School in the territory of Kaun Wan Sub-district, Nongkhai Province” were; 1) to study the Sangha’s role in training the virtue and morality for the students of the Primary School 2) to study the present situation and the problems of the Buddhist monks in training the virtue and morality of the Propagating Organization of Buddhism in Kaun Wan Sub-district, Nongkhai Province and 3) to propose the guideline of developing the Sangha’s role in training the virtue and morality for the students in the Primary school in the territory of Kaun Wan Sub-dsitrict, Nongkhai Province. This research is the qualitative research collecting the data from various documents as the conception and theory of research from interviewing the 25 key informants and to propose the results by using the descriptive analysis.

The results of the research were found that the Buddhist monks beside having the role in training and planting the virtue and morality for the students still have to practice themselves as the good model as well. One method has the importance not more than training is that the method enhance the students to absorb the good image and to be good persons who live in the virtue and morality for their lives as Varunee Thanavaranit and the others saying that the model will do its duties as the motivation to create the process of learning by notice and to create the attitude, thought, felling and the changed behaviors in accordance with features and the model as observed. In addition from the observed process, it will create the criterion learning of the behavior, one will use all these criterions in evaluating their behaviors both in positive and negative aspects, they fell happy when they can do in accordance with the established standards or fell sorry, shy when they commit fault from the criterion standards as designated.

To study the present situation and the problems of Sangha kin training the virtue and morality of the Propagating Organization of Buddhism in Kaun Wan Sub-district, Nongkhai Province was found that some schools do not understand the objectives of the training project of training the virtue and morality. So it causes the problems but not too much. The majority of obstacles in managing the training project is the problems of the places and the times for management of the project, the importance is the payment in managing the project of training the virtue and morality, that is, the problems as follows:

1) the students have short meditation and they fall  in love with the games when they are still young.

2) The Buddhist monks do not have the knowledge to teach the students in the level of primary school.

3) The times and duties are not enough. But the Buddhist monks’ duties are found that they are the problems and obstacles in the project management in training the virtue and morality. The majority of the problems is the total of the students who enter the training, the places for training, and the majority of the students do not understand the words “the virtue and morality”  and lack of the instructors who can manage the training because the majority will not have the knowledge and skill in training.

To propose the guideline of the development of Sangha’s role in training the virtue and morality for the students in the North Ban Sampraw school in the territory of Kaun Wan Sub-district, Nongkhai Province was found that the aspect of discipline and responsibility was found that the students practice in accordance with the regulation of school every day, that is, the students should control themselves or to practice in accordance with the regulation including participation in the activity, to dress themselves in accordance with the school regulation and the school manages the activity that can develop the students in the aspect of discipline and the responsibility more than before. In the aspect of the honesty, the activities should be managed to enhance the honesty and to realize of the value of the honesty for themselves, parents, friends, the certifications should be given to the students, people who perform the benefits for school, and their families etc. in the aspect of loving-kindness, it is found that the students want to have the development activities for learning how to assist the others with the loving-kindness without paying anything back, to advice their friends who want to have the assistance and to develop the mentality. In the aspect of the economy, the students want to have the developing activities for economy by using various ways such as to keep the coins in the saving boxes for 5 baht per day in order to plant the economic habits for the students. In the aspect of the gratefulness, it is found that the students give the gratefulness to their parents and the gratitude such as to pay attention for study, to believe in parents, teachers and not to violate the morality etc.  and to propose the way to plant and develop the virtue that man is not only the living thing that consists of the body and face that can be seen with the eyes only but also man still consists of the important characteristics that make man different from the world creatures, that is, “ the virtues”.
