Abstract

The objectives of research were (1) to study temple roles in development the quality of life for the elderly at Ladyai sub-district, Muangsamutsongkram district, Samutsongkram province, (2) to compare the opinions of people toward temple roles in development the quality of life for the elderly at Ladyai sub-district, Muangsamutsongkram district, Samutsongkram province, classified by personal data, and (3) to study the problems, obstacles and suggestions for development of temple roles in develop the quality of life for the elderly at Ladyai sub-district, Muangsamutsongkram district, Samutsongkram province. The research methodology was the mixed methods research, that the quantitative research used the questionnaire as the tool to collect the data in the field study from 390 people at Ladyai sub-district, Muangsamutsongkram district, Samutsongkram province. The statistics were used for the data analysis through frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation (S.D.), t-test, F-test, One-way Analysis of Variance and Least Significant Difference: LSD. And the qualitative research had the documentary analysis and interview as the tool to collect the data in the field study from 12 key informants and analyzed the data through the content analysis technique.

             The findings of this research were as following :

             1. Temple roles in development the quality of life for the elderly at Ladyai sub-district, Muangsamutsongkram district, Samutsongkram province, overall, that in high at mean of 3.98, when considering in each aspect found that in high level for all aspects. The aspect that had the most value named as the aspect of mind, high level at mean of 4.22. The aspect with the lowest mean named as the aspect of body, high level at mean of 3.92.

             2. The comparison for opinions of people toward temple roles in development the quality of life for the elderly at Ladyai sub-district, Muangsamut-songkram district, Samutsongkram province, classified by personal data, found that sex, age, education, career and income had the effect to opinions of people to the temple roles in development the quality of life for the elderly at Ladyai sub-district, Muangsamutsongkram district, Samutsongkram province in overall indifferently. The hypothesis was rejected.

             3. The problems and obstacles for development of temple roles in develop the quality of life for the elderly at Ladyai sub-district, Muangsamutsongkram district, Samutsongkram province, as following; Some temples are not recommended on health care according to Buddhist doctrines, some temples focus on meditation without any other activities, some temples do not promote activities to enhance family ties, some temples do not have toilets that take into account the convenience and safety of use specifically for the elderly. And, the suggestion for development of temple’s roles in developing the quality of life for the elderly in Ladyai sub-district, Muangsamutsongkram district, Samutsongkram province, as following; the knowledge advertisement process development for healthcare according to Buddhadhamma to the elderly and general persons to television station, radio station or broadcast. To have Buddhist art activity to help to have the relaxation, merry and mental happiness to the elderly who come to practice mediation with general people. The community center for arranging the important day about family institution such as aging day, family day, mother day, father day etc. And, organizing toilets for the elderly and handicapped peoples who practice mediation.
