Abstract

The main purposes of this thesis were to study the history and development of Isan proverbs, an analytical study to compare both of them, the synthesis of Isan proverbs into Buddhist proverbs, and both of them related to each other. This research was qualitative research made from all collected documentaries. The result of study was found these following points.

                  Pha-ya was the proverb which was spoken written by Isan scholars to teach persons to do good. Usually, Pha-ya or proverbs are physically divided into two groups; Pha-ya kreu, which means proverbs consisting of long sentence and Pha-ya Kom which consists of a short word. Whether they are long of short but they have three contents; good proverbs, loving couple talks and puzzle proverbs which means hidden agenda words.

                  The proverbs in harmony with Buddhist proverbs were in four ways: the practice of persons such as the education, the relation of persons with persons such as six directions, association, the relation of persons with the nature such as defiling of persons with the nature, and relation of persons with thing which is stay over of the nature such as bases of meritorious action, evil, carelessness, and non-carelessness for daily life, etc.

            Buddhist proverbs were divided into thirteen groups:  self, person, active and work, carelessness and not carelessness, good-evil, associating, happiness and suffering, donation, precepts, diligence, death and other groups. The main objects of the pha-ya Synthesis was made into the same of each groups, to show that proverbs could be synthesized each group. Buddhist proverbs of some look likes, or direct which is the concepts some proverbs  were quiet in the same or in the same, generally made as a concept to teach people (a person) for word behavior as the above mentioned one.
