Abstract

The thesis entitled “the Analytical Study of Pamãnikã in Buddhism” aims at a study on the significance and relation of Pamãnikã and also analyzes the actions of ones who adhered to it. All data obtained were analyzed by descriptive ways.

The research indicated that Pamãnikã means those who measure, judge or take standard and are divided into 4 categories as follows; (1) rupappamãnikã; one whose faith depends on good appearance (2) ghosappamãnikã; one who measures by voice or reputation,
(3) lukhappamãnikã; one whose faith depends on shabbiness or ascetic or self-denying practices, (4) dhammappamãnikã; one who measures or judges by the teaching or righteous behavior.

Pamãnikãs were important to the party, it can be said that to take standard to someone was to create the impetus to Dhamma practice in various ways. For the reason that, men live their lives depending on the principle of Pamãnikãs to carry out. Not only the relationship but also the progress and retreat to man of all walks of life can be created.

The result of the pamãnikãs or taking standards was different according to the pamãnikã they have been grasped up. In the other hands, the natures of parenting in childhood, family environments and imitative behaviors were also the causes of arising pamãnikã. Therefore, the dhammapamãnikã should be highly promoted to people more than others pamãnikãs in order to follow the Buddha’s doctrines for the benefit of life.
