ABSTRACT

The objectives of this research were as follow : (1) to study the concept  administration of environment in Buddhism, (2) to study the role of Buddhist monks in  of administration of environment, and (3) to study environment management of the abbots in Nakhon Pathom Province. The research is the qualitative research, compiled the data from various sources of Buddhist documents, and at the same time field research was undertaken by interviewing the ecclesiastical governor of Nakhon Pathom Province along with the abbots of the four temples in the area.

The results of the research are found that ;

            1. The Buddha had concerned with natural environments in the forest as could be seen from his places of birth, enlightenment, death, as well as dwellings of him and his disciples were all in the forests. His dhamma and vinaya were sometime prescribed in accordance with natural environments. It is quite difficult to separate the way of life of the Buddha and his disciples from the natural environments, especially the forests.

          2. The Sangha have played the great role in the promotion and succession of Buddhism to the public, as could be seen examples from the activities organized in community that the Sangha have participated. As their way of life of the works are easy, satisfied what whatever is one’s own, thus they can adjust themselves to the natural environments all the time.

          3. On views of the ecclesiastical governor of Nakhon Pathom Province and the other four abbots interviewed, they have managed the temples as ever practiced from the past abbots as well as their knowledge and experiences, that are to look for, care for, repair, or reconstruct in place of the original forms and formats in order to maintain cultural heritage to the next generation.
